Why Peru

Peru’s appetite for Korean ramen, snacks and drinks is rising in Lima, driven by K-culture fans and convenience retail. The Korea–Peru FTA lowers duty on many processed foods, while DIGESA registration and octagon warning labels shape the launch timeline.

Product registration in Peru

Competent authority: DIGESA (General Directorate of Environmental Health and Food Safety)
1

DIGESA sanitary registration

Each processed food product needs a DIGESA sanitary registration held by the Peruvian importer; the registration number must appear on the label.

2

Warning octagons

Under Law 30021 and its Manual of Advertising Warnings, products high in sugar, sodium or saturated fat — or containing trans fats — carry black "ALTO EN" octagons.

3

Spanish labelling

Labels show ingredients, dates, country of origin and the importer’s name, RUC and address in Spanish.

Typical lead time: DIGESA registration is usually processed within a few weeks when documents are complete, and stays valid for 5 years.

Duties & taxes

Import duty

The Korea–Peru FTA (in force since 2011) removes or reduces duty on many processed foods with a certificate of origin; a set of sensitive agricultural and marine products was excluded. Peru’s general tariff tiers are 0%, 6% and 11%.

VAT / sales tax

Peru’s IGV is 18% (including the 2% municipal promotion tax), charged at import on CIF + duty; an IGV advance (percepción) may also be collected at clearance.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need product registration to import Korean food to Peru?

Yes. Processed foods need a DIGESA sanitary registration in the importer’s name before sale, with the registration number, Spanish labelling and "ALTO EN" octagons where thresholds are exceeded. TY supplies the Korean manufacturer documents, checks labels and delivers DDP to Lima.

How long does shipping from Korea to Peru take?

LCL from Busan to CALLAO takes about 27 days port-to-port. Add customs clearance and inland delivery for the full door-to-door DDP timeline. We consolidate weekly, so small first orders move fast.

What does DDP shipping mean for my order?

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means one all-in price to your door: pickup in Korea, ocean or air freight, customs clearance, import duty and taxes, and final delivery. You see your total landed cost before you commit to the order.
