Monthly commentary

Composite

Ocean freight from Korea rose sharply amid the war in the Middle East and heightened geopolitical instability, with North America FCL and LCL consolidation rates seeing the steepest increases.

FCL · North America

In the wake of the Middle East war, July FCL rates to North America roughly doubled month-over-month (market movement — no change in methodology).

LCL · Worldwide

LCL consolidation rates also rose significantly on the back of the Middle East situation.

Methodology

Sources: TY TradeOne's published carrier-by-carrier FCL NET rates from Korean ports (Busan / Incheon) and our LCL consolidation tariff covering 600+ destinations worldwide.

Chained matched-lane method: each month we compare only the lanes quoted in both the current and the previous month, take the ratio of their average rates, and chain those ratios into an index. Newly added or discontinued lanes never distort the index.

FCL uses the 40ft container rate; LCL uses the per-CBM rate. Non-numeric quotations (on request / suspended) are excluded.

Each series starts at 100 in its first data month. The index reflects rates published by TY TradeOne and may differ from market-wide indices such as SCFI or KCCI.

For reference only — not a quotation. Actual rates vary by cargo, timing and carrier.
