How we structure the Importer of Record
The US Importer of Record is structured one of two ways depending on your situation. A US entity is not required: a Korean company can import as the foreign importer of record (FIOR).
Your own IOR
If you hold a US entity and EIN, goods are imported under your name. This is the safest setup under the tightened 2026 CBP requirements.
FIOR (foreign importer)
A Korean company with no US entity imports directly using a CAIN and a customs bond. From 2026 this route requires a CTPAT validated broker and ownership disclosure.
From 18 September 2026, CBP voids Importer of Record numbers without prior notice when the Form 5106 identity data is inaccurate or incomplete, and a voided number cannot be used to make entry, so cargo stops at the port. Using a forwarder or broker address (or a PO box) as the IOR address, and powers of attorney obtained through a third party, are both grounds for voiding. We therefore no longer recommend borrowing a third party name through a so-called IOR service, and we set up only client-name IOR and FIOR structures. If you already hold an IOR number, we will review your Form 5106 with you.

- FBM orders flow automatically into the warehouse system and trigger picking and packing.
- Once shipped, delivery details and the tracking number are written back to Seller Central automatically.
- Setup usually takes 1-3 business days, with warehouse IT handling the API authorization.
FBA shelf life requirements
Amazon requires a minimum remaining shelf life measured at the moment the goods arrive at the fulfillment center. Short-dated inventory can be refused, so this must be checked before shipping.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take from Korea to a US FBA center?
From Incheon, air freight reaches LAX in 2-3 days, FCL takes 6-14 days and LCL 12-15 days. Import clearance, warehouse receiving and the FBA appointment after arrival depend on the shipment, so we quote them case by case.
What changes with the September 2026 IOR rules?
From 18 September 2026, CBP immediately voids Importer of Record numbers whose Form 5106 data is inaccurate or incomplete, and cargo stops at the port once a number is void. A forwarder or broker address and PO boxes are no longer acceptable as the IOR address, and the power of attorney must be executed directly with the importer. If you already hold an IOR number, start by reviewing the registered address and the power of attorney.
Can I ship to FBA without a US entity?
Yes. Without a US entity and EIN you import as a foreign importer of record (FIOR) using a CAIN and a customs bond. Note that Executive Order 14411 (2026) bars foreign IORs from informal entries and requires a CTPAT validated broker, so we set the structure up in advance to suit your shipment.
Should I choose FBA or FBM?
FBA gives you Amazon visibility and Prime delivery speed, while FBM keeps inventory control and expiry management in your hands. For short-dated goods or products restricted from FBA, FBM is the practical route. We operate both from the same warehouse.
What happens to short-dated inventory?
If the remaining shelf life falls under Amazon requirements, FBA may refuse the delivery. In that case the goods can be stored at our LA 3PL warehouse and shipped to end customers as FBM orders arrive.
Can I run non-Amazon channels at the same time?
Yes. The same LA inventory can fulfil Amazon FBA, AWD and FBM as well as TikTok Shop and Shopee orders.
Do you handle small volumes?
Yes. Small volumes move by LCL or air consolidation, and we switch you to FCL as volume grows to bring the unit cost down.
